Understand Free Trial and Pro Features

Understand what stays free forever, how the automatic 14-day Pro trial works, what Pro adds, and how to activate, refresh, or deactivate your license on this Mac.

This guide explains TypingVoi's plans as clearly as possible: what is free forever, how the 14-day Pro trial works, what Pro adds, and what changes when the trial ends.

How the plans work

TypingVoi has a free tier that stays free forever and a Pro license you buy once.

Every new install starts with 14 days of Pro. The trial starts on its own the first time you open TypingVoi. There is no card to enter and no account to create. When the 14 days end, TypingVoi moves to Free, and your everyday dictation keeps working.

If you installed TypingVoi before this plan model and never started a trial, you also get the 14-day Pro trial automatically the next time you launch the app.

TypingVoi has three practical states:

  • Free
  • Trial
  • Pro

You can check the current state in Settings > Plan & License.

The Plan & License card is the source of truth for this Mac. It shows which tier is active, when the trial ends, and whether Pro is fully validated or temporarily running in offline grace mode.

What Free includes

Free costs $0 and has no time limit. It covers the full everyday dictation workflow:

  • unlimited live dictation, including push-to-talk
  • text inserted at the cursor, with clipboard fallback
  • all supported languages
  • one speech model installed at a time (uninstall it to swap in a different one)
  • realtime preview and Fast Chunk mode
  • one profile
  • up to 15 custom words per profile in the Names & Special Words list (used by speech models that support custom vocabulary)
  • history of the last 7 days

Free also lets you try two Pro features with a limit:

  • AI cleanup: 20 cleanups per week, counted over a rolling 7 days
  • Audio file transcription: files up to 5 minutes long

History older than 7 days is not deleted on Free. TypingVoi keeps those sessions and shows them again if you upgrade to Pro.

What Pro adds

Pro is a one-time purchase: a lifetime license at a launch price of $39 (regular price $49). Check typingvoi.com for the current price before you buy.

Pro removes the Free limits and adds the advanced workflow features:

  • the full speech model library, with a different model per profile
  • unlimited AI cleanup with contexts and tones, using an on-device LLM or your own OpenAI-compatible API key
  • unlimited profiles, automatic profile switching per app, and per-profile shortcuts
  • audio file transcription of any length
  • the "Hey Voice" wake word for hands-free start and stop
  • bring-your-own-key cloud (remote) transcription models
  • unlimited history
  • unlimited custom words

When Pro is active, the card shows Pro and these features stay unlocked on this Mac.

What happens during the 14-day trial

During the trial:

  • every Pro feature is unlocked
  • the card shows Trial
  • the card also shows when the trial ends

Use the trial to set up the workflows you would actually keep: extra profiles, AI cleanup, file transcription, or the wake word. That way you can judge Pro from real use instead of from the settings alone.

The trial normally starts by itself. If a Start 14-Day Trial button appears on the Plan & License page, it means this Mac has not started its trial yet, and you can start it there.

What changes when the trial ends

When the trial ends and you have not activated Pro, TypingVoi moves to Free. Nothing you set up is deleted:

  • Profiles: extra profiles are kept but locked. Your first profile keeps working.
  • AI cleanup: cleanup keeps running until you reach the 20-per-week quota. After that, transcripts are inserted without AI cleanup until the quota frees up again.
  • Wake word: "Hey Voice" stops listening.
  • Remote transcription models: TypingVoi stops using them and transcribes with your local model instead.
  • Speech models: extra installed models stay on disk. To install a different model, you need to remove one first so only one is installed.
  • Custom words: a vocabulary list longer than 15 words is kept, but only the first 15 are used. On Free you cannot save more than 15.
  • History: you see the last 7 days. Older sessions are kept and come back if you upgrade.
  • File transcription: files up to 5 minutes still work.

If you activate Pro later, the locked profiles and older history become available again.

How to activate a license key

Open Settings > Plan & License. If this Mac is not already on Pro, the page shows an Activate Pro area with a Paste license key field and an Activate button.

Use this workflow:

  1. Open Settings > Plan & License.
  2. Paste the license key into Paste license key.
  3. Click Activate.
  4. Wait for the card to refresh to Pro.

If activation succeeds, the page shows the Pro state and a masked display key. If activation fails, the page shows an error message in the same section.

Common reasons activation can fail:

  • the key was pasted with a typo or extra spaces
  • the key is not valid
  • the Mac cannot reach the license service right now

If the problem looks temporary, use Refresh after checking your connection.

What Deactivate This Mac does

Deactivate This Mac removes the current Pro activation from this Mac.

Use it when:

  • you are moving Pro to another Mac
  • you are replacing this Mac
  • you want to clear the current activation before activating again

After deactivation:

  • this Mac no longer stays on Pro from that activation
  • the Plan & License page can return to Free or another non-Pro state
  • you can activate again later with a valid key

Only use deactivation when you actually want to remove Pro from the current machine.

What Refresh does

Refresh asks TypingVoi to check the current license status again.

Use Refresh when:

  • you just activated a license and want to confirm the state
  • the page says the last validation failed
  • you have reconnected to the internet after being offline
  • you want the current Mac to re-check its Pro status manually

This does not buy or activate Pro by itself. It only refreshes the current license state for this Mac.

How offline grace works

TypingVoi includes an offline grace period for Pro after a successful validation. In the current app, that grace window is 7 days.

Practical behavior:

  • if Pro was validated successfully before you went offline, TypingVoi can keep Pro active for a limited time while it cannot reconnect
  • the Plan & License card can show that Pro is active in offline grace mode
  • when the app reconnects, use Refresh if you want to force a new check immediately

Offline grace is a fallback, not a permanent offline license mode. If Pro cannot be validated again after the grace window ends, TypingVoi can fall back to Free.

How to read the license card states

The text on the Plan & License card helps explain what is happening:

  • Free means this Mac is using the free tier.
  • Trial means the 14-day trial is active.
  • Pro means the Mac has active Pro access.
  • Your trial ended. Free features are still available. means the trial expired and Pro was not activated. Everything in Free keeps working.
  • The last validation failed. Try refreshing. means Pro needs a fresh check.
  • Pro is active in offline grace mode means the app is temporarily honoring a previously validated Pro state while offline.
  • This Mac was deactivated. You can activate again anytime. means Pro was removed from this Mac and can be reactivated later.

If you are unsure what to do next, start by reading the message on the card before changing anything else.

When Free is enough and when Pro is worth it

Free is enough if you mostly dictate in one app style with one profile and one speech model, and only occasionally need AI cleanup or a short audio file.

Pro is worth it if any of these are part of your normal week:

  • several profiles for different apps or languages, switching automatically
  • AI cleanup on most of what you dictate
  • transcribing recordings longer than 5 minutes
  • hands-free start and stop with "Hey Voice"
  • comparing or mixing several speech models, or using a cloud transcription model with your own key
  • searching history further back than 7 days
