TypingVoi Settings Reference by Pane

Use this pane-by-pane reference to find what each TypingVoi settings area controls, what each option affects, and where to go for deeper setup guides.

This guide is for TypingVoi users who want a fast settings backstop instead of hunting through every pane one by one. Use it when you know the pane name, need a concise reminder of what a setting does, or want the right follow-up guide without reading a full tutorial first.

Dashboard

Use Dashboard for quick setup status, not deep configuration.

  • Setup status shows whether the welcome flow is complete and gives you a way to reopen it.
  • System access shows the two permissions that matter most for day-to-day use: microphone and accessibility typing.
  • License also appears here so you can see your current plan without leaving the main settings entry point.

If Dashboard says setup still needs attention, the missing piece is usually a language/model choice, permissions, or your main shortcut.

System

Use System for Mac-wide behavior that applies across profiles.

  • Microphone requests live recording permission from macOS.
  • Accessibility Typing requests the permission TypingVoi needs to insert text into other apps.
  • Main recording shortcut is the global shortcut that starts recording from anywhere on your Mac.
  • Hold shortcut to keep recording sets how long you must hold a push-to-talk shortcut before recording stays active hands-free.
  • Open TypingVoi at login controls whether the app launches automatically with macOS.

Recording Sound

  • Microphone input source chooses the input device for new recordings.
  • Test microphone level lets you confirm the selected input is receiving sound before you record.
  • Output volume while recording lowers your current output volume by a percentage while you speak, then restores it after recording ends.
  • Pause media while recording pauses active playback when recording starts and resumes it when recording finishes.

Recording Panel

  • Show recording panel turns the floating recording panel on or off.
  • Recording panel style changes the panel shape.
  • Screen for recording panel chooses which display hosts the panel.
  • Mini panel placement chooses where the compact panel appears.
  • Fixed panel position pins the mini panel to a fixed anchor when fixed placement is selected.
  • Realtime chunk lines limits how many live preview lines appear in the mini panel.

Use System for shared behavior. Use profile panes when the choice should change by workflow.

Model Library

Use Model Library to manage shared model downloads, not profile-specific preferences.

  • STT Models is where you install and review speech-to-text models for recording and file transcription.
  • LLM Models is where you install local cleanup models and manage shared remote cleanup endpoints.
  • Refresh Library updates the model catalog if expected models are missing or stale.
  • Language filters narrow STT models by spoken language support.
  • Text language filters narrow cleanup models by supported output language.
  • Install downloads a model locally and shows progress in the model row.
  • Used by shows which profiles currently rely on a shared model.
  • Storage totals help you see the disk impact of installed models.

If a profile cannot see the model you want, check Model Library first before changing profile settings.

Transcribe File

Use Transcribe File to run transcription on saved audio files. This is available during the 14-day trial and on Pro.

  • Language sets the spoken-language hint for the file. Auto is useful when you are unsure.
  • Installed Model lets you choose from installed models that match the selected language.
  • Choose Audio File opens the file picker and starts a new run.
  • Transcribe Again reruns the last file with the current language and model selection.
  • Status shows whether the pane is ready, running, finished, or failed.
  • Detected language appears after a run when the app can identify it.
  • Transcribed Text shows the result.
  • Copy Text copies the finished transcript for reuse elsewhere.

If no compatible installed model appears, install one from Model Library first.

History

Use History to review saved sessions after recording is done.

  • History Snapshot gives a quick summary of saved session count, processed words, total record time, and top profile.
  • Search saved sessions searches transcript text, profile names, language codes, and visible status text.
  • Language filter narrows sessions by detected or recorded language.
  • Profile filter narrows sessions by the profile that created them.
  • Status filter narrows sessions by result state.
  • Pagination keeps larger histories manageable page by page.
  • Expanding a session shows the full processed transcript and, when available, the raw transcript.
  • Copy Processed copies the cleaned result.
  • Copy Raw copies the raw transcript when a raw version exists.

History only fills up for profiles where Save sessions in history is enabled.

Profile & Output

Profile & Output appears inside each profile. Use it to define where final text goes and how that workflow starts.

  • Profile name shown in menu controls the label you see in the menu bar and settings sidebar.
  • Profile quick-start shortcut adds an optional shortcut that starts recording directly into that profile.
  • Where final text goes sets the output mode:
    • Insert at Cursor tries to type into the active app.
    • Clipboard Only copies the result without typing it for you.
    • Do Nothing leaves the result in TypingVoi only.
  • Where inserted text goes appears when Insert at Cursor is selected:
    • Original Field (at Starting) tries to return to the field that was active when recording began.
    • Current Field (at Ending) uses whatever field is active when recording ends.
  • Show live transcript preview turns realtime preview on for push-to-talk profiles.
  • Save sessions in history saves completed and failed sessions to the History pane.

Choose Clipboard Only when direct insertion is unreliable in a target app. Choose Do Nothing only when you plan to review or copy results manually.

Language & Model

Language & Model also appears inside each profile. Use it for profile-specific transcription behavior.

  • Spoken language for this profile sets the main language hint for that workflow.
  • Top recommendation highlights the strongest model match for the current language and use case.
  • Recommended rows can show installed choices and downloadable choices separately.
  • Show all models expands the list beyond the top recommendations when you want more control.
  • No Compatible Models means the current language or use case does not match an installed option yet.

Vocabulary

The Vocabulary section appears only when the current final model supports vocabulary boosting.

  • Use it to add names, jargon, product terms, and other spelling-sensitive words.
  • Save stores the list for that profile.
  • Clear removes the saved entries.
  • Vocabulary helps supported local batch models. Live preview and Whisper ignore this list.

If a term keeps coming out wrong, fix it here before changing your whole model strategy.

Cleanup AI

Cleanup AI appears inside each profile. It is available during the 14-day trial and on Pro.

  • Run cleanup turns the cleanup step on for that profile.
  • Keep original on failure keeps the raw transcript if cleanup fails instead of losing the result.
  • LLM Model selects one cleanup model for the profile. The list can include local LLMs and shared remote LLMs.
  • Temperature controls how strict or creative cleanup should be. Lower values are safer for faithful cleanup.
  • Prompt Preset applies a predefined cleanup style.
  • Cleanup Instructions lets you use custom instructions instead of relying only on presets.
  • Test Clean-up Transcript Here is the scratch area for trying cleanup on rough text before you use it in a real recording.
  • Test Selected Model runs the selected cleanup setup and shows either a result or an error.

Leave cleanup off for workflows where you want the raw transcript first, especially for interviews, technical wording, or accuracy checks.

Advanced

Advanced appears inside each profile. Use it for app matching and rare profile actions.

  • App activation lets you assign apps that should automatically use this profile when recording starts from those apps.
  • Search Applications helps you find installed apps by name or bundle ID.
  • Applications shows apps available to assign.
  • Assigned to [Profile] shows apps already linked to the current profile.
  • Delete this profile removes the profile and its settings. You cannot delete your only remaining profile.

Use app activation when different apps need different output behavior, languages, or cleanup rules.

License

Use License to understand your current plan and manage activation on this Mac.

  • You're on Free, Trial, or Pro shows your effective tier.
  • The subtitle explains the current entitlement state, such as active trial, active Pro, expired trial, or validation trouble.
  • Trial ends appears during an active trial.
  • Pro is active in offline grace mode appears when TypingVoi is temporarily keeping Pro active while reconnecting.
  • The displayed key helps you confirm which license is active on this Mac.
  • Paste license key and Activate are for turning on Pro with a purchased key.
  • Start 14-Day Trial begins the trial if you have not used it yet.
  • Buy Pro opens the purchase flow.
  • Deactivate This Mac removes the current activation from this Mac.
  • Refresh checks license status again.

If a feature looks locked unexpectedly, check License before troubleshooting the feature itself.
